Art 13, Kensington Olympia
In ‘Volition’, working with David Donnelly, First Artist of the Royal Ballet, Dalton drew the dancer’s movements, as Donnelly improvised to music by The Big Pink. The pencil lines were projected instantaneously onto a large screen. The dancer and artist partner each other through their movements and marks. The drawing explores the dancer’s movements, temperament and speed whilst in turn the dancer pushes and pulls the artist’s lines. The synergistic nature of their relationship is an exploration of the way in which we both manipulate and are manipulated by our surroundings.
