Royal Academy Symposium, 2018
‘Experiencing Architecture: Inviting Dialogue’ was a two part event hosted by the Royal Academy of Arts in 2018. The first part was a series of performances at Walmer Yard designed by Peter Salter. The evening’s events sought to create an exchange between surroundings, visitor and performer, allowing the audience to experience fully the buildings’ potential. Dalton sought to capture through drawing the physical, temporal and experiential aspects of the evening.
The second part of was a symposium at the Royal Academy of Arts, held in the life drawing room in the RA Schools. Dalton drew throughout the day’s papers and discussions, seeking to record and interpret the experience of listening and looking. The resultant works on paper are instinctive and non-hierarchical, rendering and fixing both the tangible and the intangible aspects of the experience.
