Royal College of Music

As part of the Great Exhibitionist series at the Royal College of Music, London, Dalton collaborated with pianist Imma Setiadi on a performance of Debussy’s Preludes. A video is streamed onto a table top, upon which Dalton draws, paints, cuts, tears and places objects in front of the projector lens; the work in progress is filmed by a camera underneath the table, which is projected directly onto the wall. The visual responses to the music, were informed by Debussy’s documented love of the natural world, which he referred to as his religion. Titled ‘Debussy Explosion’, the images seek to disrupt and challenge the conventional concert going experience, breathing new life into a familiar piece of music.
